NSA Crew Clinic
The Social Sailing Fundraiser of the Year!
Saturday, September 18th, 2010
in conjunction with
The Oriental Cup Regatta Weekend
A message from the Crew Clinic Director, Ed Mannina....
I have waited to say anything about this year’s Crew Clinic event because I wanted to get final agreement from Dave Sniffin, President of Raleigh Ski and Outing Club (RSOC), to see if the change in the event would have any effect with the current plan for both organizations.
That now has been set and we will have the event on the same weekend of the Oriental Cup Regatta, 18 & 19 September.
Over the past few years we have seen a decline in interest in the Crew Clinic event. Each year we set the same entertainment and the same venue and get the same result, in which we are no longer receiving profits.
As you all know this event was created years ago to train racing crews and has become a major part of our financial picture through-out the calendar year. The bridge, both this year and in previous years, has agreed that we still need an event to raise money for the benefit of our cash flow for our social events.
Each time we have discussed this, we all come up with the same answer, let’s keep Crew Clinic and put forth our best effort. This year I was asked to lead this event. However, I said I would only take on the event if I could make a significant change. These changes should bring renewed interest in Crew Clinic, and membership.
This Change is to Have the Event in the fall with the 18 September Race Day during The Oriental Cup Regatta weekend event. The cost for taking part in the weekend will result in a large savings to the NSA since we will not have to hire the entertainment. Other costs will remain the same. Considering this change, we must be flexible with what some of the participants choose to do for that Saturday sailing event. We can offer Options: Enter the race and join the raft up after the race Sail around the course viewing the race at different locations during the race and join the raft up for a social after the race Positioning at the course markers to take photos and join the raft up for a social after the race.
We will assemble a slide show of previous races held over the years, and present this in pictorial form at the meetings of the Raleigh and Greensboro RSOCs. Here we hope to generate renewed interest in a great event with a New Twist.
As Vice Commodore of this event, I ask the membership to sign up early to participate in what should be a great weekend event.
Meet you at the next waypoint!
